Literacy skills are some of the most important skills we can teach students because of the impact throughout their lifespan. Research tells us that communication, reading and writing can develop concurrently for children with disabilities and there are no pre-requisite skills a student must master to begin learning pre-literacy skills. It is an exciting time to be an educator because we now know that all students benefit from comprehensive literacy instruction. We can teach our students, even those with the most complex disabilities, comprehensive literacy skills that will have a positive impact on their education and life beyond school. Boardmaker and Tobii Dynavox offer a variety of curricula and supports to help you teach emergent communicators and emergent readers literacy skills.
